Change for Children Campaign

The Change for Children Campaign begins today. The time frame runs from today to Sunday September 22, 2013. Please pick up a can for your family and begin filling it with your change (or dollar bills if you prefer).

For our encouragement, consider the following passages of Scripture:

“Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.” Isaiah 1:17

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit the

fatherless and the widows in their

affliction, and keep oneself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27

Hurricane Sandy has devastated many of our fellow citizens in the states of New York and New Jersey. The death toll has exceeded 100. Some damage estimates reach $20 billion. These statistics illustrate the overall picture of the dire personal distress and suffering of so many individuals. We wish to help those in need.

The physical needs of these victims are enormous, but many may be in spiritual need as well. With that thought in mind, our financial aid will be handled and distributed by the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc., located in Nashville, Tennessee.  Members of the Lord’s church manage and run this organization and do their work in the name of the church. Disaster Relief works only through the local churches of Christ in the communities where the hurricane hit. Supplies are distributed by these local congregations “in the name of the Lord” to those affected by the disaster. If you wish to contribute, please give gift to Phil Forrest.

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16

Change for Children

Helping others is very much a part of Christian living. Paul wrote to the churches at Galatia: “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10) James tells us: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)

We have many opportunities to practice pure religion by helping others. One way in which we can help the fatherless is through support of the Southeastern Children’s Home. At this time of year they have a fundraising drive called: Change For Children. Many of us picked up a can a few months back. It is now time to return them. Next Sunday, September 30, is the deadline.

If, like some of us, you did not get as many coins in the cans as you would have liked, feel free to put a check or some folding money in.
