What a Fellowship! What a Joy Divine!

Most Christians enjoy a good fellowship meal when we spend time with others who share our faith and our taste in desserts but consider that true “fellowship” is more than just a meal.

Fellowship is necessary. The early church members “were continually devoting themselves…to fellowship” (Acts 2:42). Their devotion shows us that they were constantly attending to it. Fellowship was important enough that it never escaped their attention.

Fellowship is between Christians. The word describes a “partnership” and a “sharing.” In 1 John 1:7, we read, “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another.” Fellowship occurs with those whom we lock arms with as we “walk in the Light.” True fellowship can only exist between Christians who share a common faith.

Fellowship is more than a meal. We may discuss sports, hobbies, work or our families but we also need to discuss the highs and lows of our faith, our bold triumphs and our discouraging struggles along with our love of God’s word and hope of eternal salvation. True fellowship requires us to share much more than our favorite desserts.
