Jesus Is the Way to a Better Life – Part III

The popular goal of our generation is the good life. This dream is not new. It has been a desire of every age and every walk of life — of teachers and philosophers, of kings and common men. But for a good life, Jesus is the way! So first, we need to let Jesus correct our misconceptions.  What “the good life” means to many is material prosperity, pleasure and popularity. Those are the normal thoughts and expectations.  Why do we think that way?  Nearly everyone would agree that two words sum up what “the good life” is all about: happiness and peace.

Many suppose material prosperity, pleasure and popularity will bring these things. But when we look at many wealthy, high-living, famous people, many times we see them struggling and extremely unhappy and lacking inner peace.  Before we get too far along, let me say, there is nothing wrong with having things, but don’t let things be first in your life.  Things are not the way to true happiness and peace.  I have been to third world countries where the people were much poorer, by material standards, than we are in this country. But know this, even though these people are like us and want more, overall they are more content and happier than the general population in the good old USA. Jesus taught there is more to life than material possessions. Luke 12:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. He offers a peace which things of the world cannot give, and a joy which is complete and full. John 14:27 (KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. What the world cannot give, Jesus can.
