“Who shut up the sea with doors… And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?” Job 38:8, 10-11
God asked Job who had “shut up the seas with doors” and restricted its territory upon the earth. This is relating to the ocean surf. Therefore, we see that even the land and water masses are perfectly located by design!
About 71 percent of the earth’s surface is water. The average height of the land is 2250 feet. The average depth of the ocean is 13,000 feet. The ocean is about 6 times as deep as the earth is high. If the earth’s surface were smoothed out, water would entirely cover the earth more than 2 miles deep. A vast amount of water is necessary.
1) As an equalizer to temperature and 2) To supply water vapor for rain. Is it providential that their waters encroach only so far, “and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?” (vs 11)
Although the Bible is not a science book, God revealed these things to Job long before science made the discovery. It should be clear by now that science is in agreement with and substantiates the validity of the Bible. However, we will devote one more article to this subject.
