A Very Special Day

Today is special. On this day, we gather together with people we love, share important memories from the past, and enjoy wonderful gifts. It is a day that most of us look forward to and prepare for carefully. It is a day when many of us clear our schedules and expect, maybe even demand, that work never gets in the way.

Today is the Lord’s day! Nearly 2,000 years ago, after giving His life on the cross, Jesus rose from the grave. Since His undeniable resurrection, Christians have assembled to share, remember, worship, and praise God, as commanded by His word. Every “first day of the week” (Acts 20:7), Christians share in the love of God, remember Christ’s sacrifice given for us, worship the Creator, and praise His holy name.

Today is also Christmas, a wonderful time of the year that is fun, exciting, and special in so many ways. But what should be even more exciting, more important, and even more special to each of us is that today is the Lord’s day. No greater gift has ever been given, and no greater memory can ever be shared than what we have because Christ died for us, was buried in the tomb, and rose again on the first day of the week! So which day is more important to you?
