Are You Eager?

We have all been excited about future events on the calendar like holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries. My kids are constantly reminding me of who’s birthday is coming next and what sort of cake and gifts they will prefer.

As Christians, there should be one day that we look forward to more than any other; a day and future event which holds our attention and is always present in our minds.

In Hebrews 9:28, we read that one day Christ will come and appear “to those who eagerly await Him.” The day is coming when Christ will return to take us home to heaven but do we “eagerly await” that day? The phrase implies that we are expecting and looking for Him to come again. Each day of our lives should be filled with excitement and joy at the thought of seeing Christ appear and finally experiencing eternal salvation. Are we excited about His return, or has it become routine or even sometimes forgotten in our day to day lives?

We live in a distracting world that is continually trying to pull us away from our focus on God and His promises. Perhaps, from time to time, we need to remind ourselves of the glory, the blessing, and the joy that will accompany His return and appearing “to those who eagerly await Him.”
