“God-Breathed”

When Paul writes, “All scripture is inspired by God…” (2 Timothy 3:16), he reassures Timothy and Christians today that God is the source of every word in the Bible. The idea behind the phrase Paul uses is that all scripture comes from God, it comes from the mouth of God, and every word is “God-breathed.”

The Bible does not include fables written down by men or opinions presented as holy scripture to be obeyed; every word of the Bible comes from God. The Bible is not only given to us or passed down through generations by God’s providence; He is the ultimate source. Every word of the text originates with God in heaven.

Faithful Christians should trust that every word of the Bible is true and obey every command given to us by God. We can be sure that every historical account and recorded event is accurate. We need to treat every instruction, encouraging statement, and wise saying of the Bible as if God Himself spoke them in our presence.
