The book of Hebrews proves that Jesus is greater than any Old Testament leader, prophet, or law. Consider a few of the statements made in just the first two verses of Hebrews chapter one.
“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” – Hebrews 1:1-2.
- God “has spoken to us in His Son” – Jesus is both God’s Son and word. He is not merely a prophet or messenger from God. He is the embodiment of God’s word. He not only delivered God’s message to humanity but also lived it.
- God’s Son has been “appointed heir of all things” – Everything that can be given has been given to Jesus by God the Father. He is indisputably the Son of God and has been given all authority by God.
- God created the world through His Son – Jesus is, in fact, God Himself. He was with God in the beginning, He was a necessary part of the creation, and He is God.
As great and as exalted as some may have been, not a single Old Testament prophet was ever written of like Jesus. From the first verses of the book, Hebrews teaches us how much better Jesus is.
