“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” Psalms 118:24. As we go through life each of us has a desire to be happy and content. But personal experience tells us life can also be difficult. We will have financial difficulties. There will be conflict with those around us. We will have time demands placed upon us. We will suffer injury and illness. There will also be family illness or even death within our families. Most of these things bring physical pain and all of them bring emotional pain.
“Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward” Job 5:7. People tend to blame God. But is God the one to blame? No, people are. “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” James 1:14 People and/or God are still not the enemy. But you can be sure we have an enemy: Satan.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Ephesians 6:12. There is a spiritual warfare going on. We may not think so, but it’s there! Satan’s purpose in that warfare is to capture every single one of us away from God. Unfortunately, we can look around us in the world and know that he wins many battles for the souls of men and women. The question is: Who is the Devil, Satan? Is he real? What is his mission and how does he carry it out? Can we resist him? These are questions that cry out from the human heart to be answered. Fortunately, God’s word has those answers.
