What if the Israelites of the Old Testament had remained faithful to God? We know God blessed them with land, wealth, and peace, but more importantly, they were “entrusted with the oracles of God” (Romans 3:2) and had the promise of a coming Messiah. As blessed as they were, more times than we can count, they disobeyed, sinned, and rebelled…but what if they hadn’t? What if they had stayed faithful to God throughout their history?
It is hard to imagine what could have been and how God’s blessings would have continued. Perhaps the promised land would still be a special place for God’s people, or maybe the forty years of wandering the wilderness would never have been necessary. While we do not know for sure, their blessings would have been incredible.
Now, imagine how blessed we would be if we remained faithful to God. We know He has blessed us in countless ways; God takes care of our needs (Matthew 6:8), hears and answers our prayers, forgives our sins (1 John 1:7), and will one day take us home to heaven (John 14:2-3).
But what if we were more than just faithful…what if we were always faithful in everything? What if we trusted in God completely? What if we never failed to remember His promises? What if we followed His commands and sought His perfect wisdom in every decision? How blessed
could we be if we were perfectly faithful?
