Have you ever considered that someone may be watching you to learn what it means to follow Christ? Whether we realize it or not, our lives are living examples for others. The example we set can either draw others closer to Jesus or push them further away.
Jesus called His followers to be “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14–16). Our actions, words, and attitudes should reflect the character of Christ in every situation. Christians everywhere should be taking their example seriously, because we never know who is learning what a Christian should be or should not be.
Paul reminded Timothy to set that example (1 Timothy 4:12). That same charge applies to every Christian today. The world is filled with voices claiming to know the truth, but they do not live a life of truth. A consistent, Godly life speaks louder than words and can show others what it truly means to follow Christ.
When Peter urged Christians to keep their behavior excellent, it was all in hopes that the Christians may be different from the world to show others Christ (1 Peter 2:12). In all areas of our lives, from having fun to worshipping God, we need to be those who are setting the example. Being in the world but separate from them, all in hopes that we may lead another to Christ.
