BEING TIMID KILLS

As we think about all that needs to be done in the church, one of the greatest battles we face is our own timidity. Often, the work that God commands requires us to step forward rather than shrink back. For example, in order to teach others the truth and tell them about the gospel, someone must be willing to begin the conversation. In order to stand for the truth, we must be willing to actually stand and contend for it. In order to be right with God, we must sometimes face the consequences of our actions, admit when we are wrong, and do what it takes to be right with the Lord.

When we think about these responsibilities, we can see how a timid attitude can endanger both our souls and the souls of those around us. Silence, fear, and hesitation can prevent good from being done and truth from being spoken. Yet God has never commanded something that is impossible. He promises that no temptation will come upon us that we are unable to endure (1 Corinthians 10:13). What He expects from us is courage and the willingness to fight the good fight with confidence in Him.

It is easy to say we should not let fear keep us from doing what is right, but it is often difficult to practice. It may be hard to start that conversation, stand-alone for the truth, or admit when we are wrong, but remembering the salvation promised to the faithful gives us the courage that is needed to put it to practice.
