A New Year, A New You

The other day, I was talking with an older gentleman who looked at me and said, “Enjoy being young, because the closer your life comes to the end, the faster it goes.” As life goes on, there is much truth in that observation. In James 4:14, we are reminded that our life is a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. With that in mind, the question we must ask ourselves is this: what have we done with this year?

As this year draws to an end, another yearly theme also comes to a close. When we take time to reflect on the past year, we should consider whether any real changes have taken place in our lives. Have we learned to walk more like Christ and be found right in the eyes of God? Have we become more serious in how we approach our daily lives as Christians and our worship to God? Have we grown more kind, showing the love of Christ more clearly to those around us?

The years may be passing by faster than we would like, but that does not give us an excuse to stop growing or maturing. If this year we have not seen growth, or as much as we hoped, let us challenge ourselves to grow, to be found acceptable in God’s eyes.
