Am I saved?

While God’s incredible promises fill the Bible…one of the greatest is the assurance that we can know whether or not we are saved from our sins. In 1 John 5:13, John writes, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

God’s word promises we can know, not doubt, wonder, or hope. We do not need to lie in bed at night afraid of what might happen if or when the Lord comes again; instead, we can, with absolute certainty, know that we are ready for that day to come.

Notice that John tells us how we can know, “these things I have written…so that you may know.” The purpose of God’s word in our lives today is to prepare us for eternity with Him in heaven. God promises us that we can know we are saved by obeying His commands or following His instructions.

So, are we saved? If we ask ourselves that question, we may answer in a few different ways. Maybe we can confidently and quickly answer with a “Yes!” Or maybe we are just not yet sure. This morning, we will consider together what is necessary to “know” that we are saved and
experience spiritual peace that can only come from God.
