Behold the Lamb of God

What amazes you? There are many things that fascinate different people; engineering feats, breathtaking architecture, or even simple landscapes. Everywhere we look, there seems to be something capable of inspiring awe.

Now imagine being in the first century, standing on the banks of the Jordan River, listening to John preach repentance. He speaks of One who is coming after him. Someone far greater. Someone more worthy. As the crowds respond to his preaching, John suddenly declares, “Behold, The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). What kind of awe do you think those words inspired in the people who heard them? How many truly understood what John was saying in that moment?

Today, we have the complete revelation of God’s Word. We can look back and see how prophecy pointed toward Christ. We can understand God’s eternal plan of redemption unfolding through His Son. Do we still experience a sense of awe as we read those prophecies and see their fulfillment? There should be a deep and profound sense of wonder within us. Seeing Jesus as the Lamb of God calls us to more than admiration; it calls us to respond. We must examine our lives and ask whether we truly live in awe of Christ, or have we allowed ourselves to become indifferent?
