Benefitting or Hindering?

Modern technology has brought many benefits into our lives. We can communicate instantly with loved ones, access information within seconds, and share knowledge easily. Technology can be a useful tool when it is used wisely and responsibly. However, it can also become a major spiritual distraction if we are not careful.

Phones, social media, streaming services, and entertainment constantly compete for our attention and time. After a long week, it may feel easier to stay home and watch a service online rather than coming to the assembly. It might be more convenient to watch the mid-week Bible study since it is so late in the day. But what does God command? What example did the 1st century Church give us? They met each first day of the week to worship God (Acts 20:7, Hebrews 10:24-25), they constantly sought out ways to fellowship with one another.

Many people can easily quote movies, songs, or random trivia facts, because of the time they have invested in it, yet struggle to remember God’s Word. Perhaps, if we devoted as much time, or more, to the study of God’s Word, then it would be easier for us to remember what He has said (Psalms 119:11, 2 Timothy 2:15).

Technology is not sinful by itself, but Christians must use it carefully. We should ask whether it is helping us grow closer to God or distracting us from Him. True joy and contentment are not found in entertainment or possessions, but in faithfully serving God and appreciating the blessings He has already provided (1 Timothy 6:6).
