Have you ever played with Legos when you were a kid, or maybe with your kids now? It seems that at least once, every child goes through this phase where they want to build a structure as tall as possible. However, they soon learn that in order to build it up, they must first have a strong foundation to build upon. If the foundation is too narrow, the structure will come tumbling down. If it is too wide, they won’t have enough pieces to go up. But if they get it just right, that’s when everything works out.
It’s fascinating to compare the parallels between constructing with Legos and building our spiritual lives. Just as when we were children, we must first assess our foundation and ensure it’s what we are building upon. As Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians 3:11, a strong foundation is built solely upon Christ Jesus. As we establish our foundation of faith in Christ, the only viable means of growth is through His Word. Recognizing that Christ’s words serve as the fundamental building blocks is essential for our spiritual development. Let us be those who continuously fortify our foundation and ever growing into more spiritually mature Christians.
