Chasing Wisdom

If you had three wishes, what would they be? Fame, fortune, or good health? What is the greatest thing anyone could ever hope to have? While there are many physical things we want, the book of Proverbs consistently encourages us to seek wisdom. One of the greatest pursuits in life is not wealth, status, or success, but wisdom (Proverbs 4:7). Wisdom is not just knowing the facts, it’s learning to see life from God’s perspective and applying His truth to our daily decisions.

However, wisdom does not simply fall into our laps, even if we wish for it. Our desire to gain Godly wisdom should be as if we were searching for gold or hidden treasure (Proverbs 2:4-5). While the world chases temporary gains, Proverbs 3:13-15 shows that wisdom is better than silver or gold. What we gain from God’s wisdom is peace, discernment, joy, and an eternal perspective that cannot be lost or stolen.

When we pursue wisdom, we are essentially pursuing God’s will. True wisdom begins with humble fear for God (Proverbs 1:7). Christians need to be people who value Godly wisdom above all else. In doing so, we can grow closer to God and be sure of the hope we have in heaven.
