There is a hymn, “God Is Love,” that reminds us of the nature of God; it is love. Everything God does flows from who He is. His commands, His patience, and His plan of salvation all stems from His love.
God’s love was made known through His actions, not only by what He inspired to be written, but in what He did. God sent His Son into the world so that mankind might have hope beyond sin and death (John 3:16). By sending His Son, and by Christ’s willingness to come to earth, shows the love that God had for even sinful people (Romans 5:8).
Something that Christians need to dwell or mediate on is God’s love. If God is love, His people are called to love. This does not mean following our feelings, but submitting to His will. Love for God is shown through obedience to His commandments (1 John 5:3). When we walk according to His word, we remain in His love and reflect that in our lives.
As we have been loved by God, we are to show that same care and concern for those around us. Christians need to be those who are known for their love. Not that this love stemmed from themselves, but instead it is the love of God presenting itself in our lives.
