“I’m taking a chance on you.” This phrase, or variation of it, has been heard before by almost everyone. It might have been when you applied for a job and were hired. Or, you might have heard it with the added phrase, “don’t make me regret it.” When you hear this phrase, it means that the person was unsure about you, and you weren’t necessarily their top choice, but they decided to give you a chance anyway. They were reminding you that you’ll have to prove yourself and earn your keep.
Let us think about God for a moment. We realize that we don’t have to wonder whether we can trust in God or not. His promises, they’ve proven trustworthy and good; He assures us of His reliability. However, what if we reversed the perspective and considered how God perceives us? What would He say? Remarkably, there’s not a single person in the world that God hasn’t declared He would not take a chance on. God yearns for all to come to Him, but we must remember the added phrase from before: “Don’t make Him regret it.” This doesn’t imply that we’ll earn our salvation through our work; rather, since He’s given everything for us, shouldn’t we give all to Him and hold nothing back?
