How’s the Fishing?

Have you ever been walking alongside a river or a lake and seen someone fishing? What is your initial reaction? Do you just say hello or are you the one who asks if they have caught anything? It seems there are two kinds of answers depending on the fisherman. One who has a good spot and doesn’t want to share may give an evasive answer. Another will simply tell you what’s going on.

What if someone asked you about your fishing? When Jesus called His apostles, He said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” We are not apostles, yet we are called to seek souls and reach others as we can, becoming fishermen for Him. How is the fishing going? There are many to reach. It is our task to try our best. Read of Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:19–23. Have you tried anything to bring some soul to Christ?

Have you invited someone to Friends and Family Day?

Are you planning on helping with Daniel Boone Days booth?

Are you trying to speak to people you meet daily?

Ask any good fisherman what is needed, he will say the right bait and patience. We are not trapping people, but we must learn how to reach them. Different approaches work for different people. The gospel is for everyone, and God’s word builds faith in all. What we are left with is finding that way to reach those that we are around.
