The Privilege to Serve

When was the last time you thanked your employer for the opportunity to put in a hard day’s work? Have you ever expressed gratitude to your boss for letting you work that grueling shift that seemed endless? We usually seek the appreciation from our bosses for our hard work, or the sacrifices that we had to give for the job, but have we ever even thought of thanking them for allowing us to work?

In 1 Timothy 1:12-14, Paul expresses his gratitude to Christ for enabling him to be put into service. While we may not seek to tell our employer thank you for letting us work for them, when we look at Christ and the service that we are called into, we should be those who are continually giving thanks.

Service to Christ is unique, unlike any job on earth. It demands everything from us and requires sacrifices. Yet, unlike earthly jobs, the reward that we are promised, is something that we are unworthy of; freedom from sin, the hope of Heaven, and a Savior who truly cares for us. We should see our service to God not as an obligation to work, but a privilege. A privilege to serve God with all that we have each and every day.
