What Are You Walking By?

Have you ever noticed that every day you are walking somewhere? From the moment you wake up and get out of bed, you begin to walk. However, have you ever asked yourself, what am I walking by? Not physically asking how we are walking, but instead in our life, what do we choose to walk by? In Galatians 5:16-25, Paul lays out a powerful warning by contrasting walking by the flesh and walking by the Spirit.

This warning teaches us that it may feel good and easy to walk according to the flesh in the moment, as it appeals to our desires, but in the end, it leads to death. On the other hand, walking by the Spirit is harder, as it is a call for self-denial, but in the end, it leads to life. Leaving us with a question; what will you walk by?

Walking by the flesh may sound appealing, however, knowing the destination hopefully will dissuade us from choosing that path. Walking by the Spirit is filled with its challenges, but also with its rewards. We may have a sense of purpose and direction in this life, we may know that we do not toil in vain, and we may have a hope of something better to come. Choosing to walk by the Spirit, is choosing to walk with Christ. What have you chosen?
