Did your parents ever give you a list of chores to complete before you could have fun, or before they got home? Growing up, my siblings and I were often given such lists. They were very clear as to what they wanted to be done. So clear, in fact, that we couldn’t get out of doing the chores by acting ignorant. We knew what was expected of us and were expected to carry out the chores properly. It was simple: complete the tasks on the list correctly or face the consequences of not obeying.
As we think of us getting this chore list from our parents, we can draw parallels between God’s treatment of us and our own responsibilities. God is meticulous in His expectations of us and unquestionable in His pronouncements of reward and condemnation. It is our responsibility to comprehend God’s teachings and diligently carry them out. The saying, “knowledge is only half the battle” resonates with us while studying God’s Word. While knowing God’s expectations is crucial, it is our actions that truly determine our faithfulness. As we think about this, what does God require of us to be found faithful? The answer is simply come to know what God has commanded and obey.
