Why So Worried?

Jesus, in Matthew 6:25-34, tells us not to worry. He even asks the question in verse 27, “and who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?” Yet, do you ever find yourself worrying to the point of letting your worries distract you from God? What good is it? That’s an easy question to ask, but the real question is what should we do when we are worried?

  1. Remember God. He is One whom we can draw near to (Hebrews 10:22, James 4:8). There is comfort and peace knowing that we are close to our Lord who cares deeply for us (Philippians 4:4-7).
  2. Remember to pray. Mankind, in all reality is frail and weak. We do not know what is ahead, we cannot control the weather, and we do not govern future. However, we serve the One who does, so give your worries to Him and let Him be in control (Colossians 4:2).
  3. Remember your salvation. Our greatest hope is our life with God after this life. There is nothing that can take us from His hand. Remember that in Christ we are promised eternal life (Hebrews 7:24-25).

Worries will always be a part of life, but they do not have to control how we react. In the middle of our worries remember who we are serving, what He is capable of, and His promises. With all these things in mind, continue to seek Him and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).
