Working for God

Have you ever had a job that didn’t really feel like work? The kind of job where you looked forward to showing up, not because you had to, but because you wanted to. What was it that made it so enjoyable? Maybe it was the actual work itself, the people you worked with, or perhaps a boss whom you liked. There are so many reasons a job can feel fulfilling and enjoyable.

What about our work for God? Sometimes, people might see serving God as just another task on their to-do list; something they feel obligated to do rather than something they’re excited about. But maybe that’s all about perspective. Imagine working for a boss who’s not just kind and generous but also endlessly patient and forgiving. This is us serving God, and because of this we should approach our work with full effort (Colossians 3:23).

Serving God is an honor; it’s not a chore. It’s not about thinking, “I have to do this,” but rather, “I get to do this.” Whether it’s encouraging someone to stay faithful (Hebrews 10:24-25), helping someone find Christ (Matthew 28:18-20), or worshiping God (John 4:24), Christians should feel the blessing of being called to serve the Lord.
